How is Your Spark?

Everyone has a Spark. It could be an Idea or a Dream. Something that excites you, motivates you, gives your life meaning. It’s a strong Desire to do something that Matters. Everyone has one – God put it in your heart when He created you and it is Good. Your Good Work, meant only for You.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do Good Works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Sparks require tending or they will go out. Throughout your life God is tending your Spark. Fanning it into a small flame; throwing fuel onto it to make it grow bigger! Quite frequently that fuel is other Christian Sisters and Brothers whom you have told about your Spark. They encourage you, cheer for you, and help you build up your Spark.


Another source of fuel is the Bible. When you read a verse or passage and it just Speaks to you at that precise moment in your journey through life - that is fuel for your Spark. You’ve read that exact same verse before, many times even, but this time, it takes on a whole new meaning. God’s Word is Alive and Active (Hebrews 4:12) and He grows your Spark when you read it, study it, and memorize it.


However, the Forces of Evil in this world want to throw a big bucket of water on your spark and put it out completely! This comes in the form of discouragement, disappointment, the daily difficulties of life and just trying to make a living. Then, in 2020, a virus that shut the entire world down completely! Jesus told us things like this would happen in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!” He also told us that He would finish what He started in us: “Be confident of this, that He who began a Good Work in you will carry it on to completion” Philippians 1:6. But you can’t Give Up!

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. 2Chronicles 15:7

The evil in the world wants us to give up and let our Spark go out! There’s so much bad stuff going on in the world that we have to Train ourselves Not to Look at it for Too Long. We should certainly be Wise toward what’s happening in the world and not stick our head in the ground, but our Gaze should be Fixed on Jesus. He is the One who has the Answers to the Problems and shows us Our Part in working toward a Solution. Our Part – don’t let that little nugget get past you! We cannot control the behavior of Anyone but Our Self! Trying to just causes More Problems! Our focus instead should be “What can I do to help make the world a better place?” Which brings me back to Your Spark.


How is your Spark these days? Mine got very cold in these weeks of quarantine. But God is still fanning it! I can feel it warming up again! Allow me put some fuel on your Spark and encourage you to Keep Going! God is still in control and He still has Good Work for you to do! He is still In You and He is “greater than the one who is in the world” 1John 4:4.

Let your light shine before others, that they may see your Good Works and glorify your Father in Heaven. Matthew 5:16
